Hi science blogging folks! Details of the first annual Irish Science Blog Awards will be released in the coming weeks (hopefully). We hope that it will be an initiative that will help to highlight the growing population of Irish Science Blogs and recognise their high quality and diversity. As this is the first year the event we would like to hear from the science blogging community (both readers and writers) on what categories you would like to have in. Below is a list of suggested categories to begin with. Please leave a comment below with any more you think should be considered or which ones we should leave out!
- Best Blog Post
- Best Series of Posts
- Best Blog Design
- Best Microblogger / Twitter
- Best Science Podcast
- Best Post Comment
- Best Photography Inspired Post
- Best Use of Video in a Post
- Best New Science Blog
- Best Group Science Blog
- Best Individual Science Blog
- Science Blog of the Year
Nominations for the awards will be open in the coming weeks with a panel of judges whittling down to a short-list (announced before the event). The winners of each category will then be presented with their award during a dedicated awards night (date and venue to be confirmed).

ReplyDeletePerhaps different categories of blog (e.g. Biology / Chemistry / Physics / Environment / Maths)... but then that extends it out a lot and limits blogs that write about multiple topics.
Not sure about Best Post Comment, Best Photography Inspired Post or Best Use of Video in a Post but they could be fun at the same time.

Maybe a "best specialist blog" might aim to reward blogs with that specific narrow focus?

How about best school (primary, secondary) blog? And/or best third level blog?
The 'series of posts' idea was an idea to highlight a category of posts in one blog which work extremely well, under a specific theme. I was thinking along the lines of your "culture and science" series of posts. Fair point though. Would love to hear what others think?
